Is recycling a waste of time? Our article looks at debunking a lot of the myths about Rubbish Clearance so you have a better idea of what happens to your waste after EnriRecycle has collected it. Did you know that nearly 80% of what we collect can be recycled in some way!

Myths

All recycling goes into Landfill, so there is no point in sorting it

Fact: Recyclable materials are always sorted at the dump and sent to reprocessing plants where they are changed into new products. If everyone believed that all rubbish just ended up in landfill, then we would stop using the proper bins, which can lead to contamination, which means what could have been recycled goes to landfill. What doesn’t go into landfill is incinerated causing huge pollution in Surrey.

Myth 1: Recycling uses more energy than it saves

Fact: This is not true. In fact the amount of energy saved from making new products from recycled materials is up to 95% less energy especially for products likealuminium cans. This energy saving if enough to run your laptop for two whole hours or to have a light on it your house for 3 hours.

Myth 2: You don’t need to rinse recyclables; it’s a waste of water.

Fact: Recycling is all about contamination. When items become contaminated, they can no longer be recycled effectively. Rinsing out your food packaging and you drink bottles ensures that these can be safely recycled and not sent to another landfill.

Myth 3: Professional rubbish or house clearance services are only for hoarders.

Fact: This is not true. In fact we have never been called to a hoarder’s house. Orders by definition keep their rubbish. What are services valuable as when you have bulky large or simply too much rubbish and need help a couple of strong hands and a lorry to to load them into,

Myth 4: Waste management companies don’t care about the environment

Fact: This is not true. Waste management companies do care about the environment. EnviRecycle takes great care to try and recycle as much weight as possible from the rubbish we collect. We liaise with all of the local Waste centres (dumps) Surrey to see how we can further improve our waste management and recycling.

Myth 5:  Rubbish clearance companies charge for each item cleared.

Fact: This is partly true. Our charges are based on the charges that the Council run recycling centres charge. This will include single items like fridges, TVs and tyres, etc. However, when it comes to general waste or garden rubbish, here we charge by the cubic yard. 1 cubic yard is the equivalent to two washing machines back to back. We charge my volume not by items outside of those that attract a higher disposable charge.

Myth 6: “Wishcycling”

Fact: Wish cycling is all about hoping that an item can be recycled. You’ll see people throw their lunch rubbish in a bin clearly marked for cans only. In this case especially the plastic film is not recyclable. This is wish cycling, just closing your eyes and hoping, don’t do it!

Myth 7: It is easier and cheaper to handle large-scale rubbish removal yourself

Fact: This can be true if you own your own lorry. In reality, it is far cheaper, both in terms of money and time, to give us a call. We have set up to remove bulky items.

Did you know: Foiled or glitter wrapping paper and greeting cards cannot be recycled.
